Snow Day Shenanigans

Well we finally got our snow! It started late last night shortly after 9pm. And man was I excited! I am such a kid when it comes to snow. I absolutely love it!
Being the smart gal I am, I made some preparations for the Snowpacolypse of 2014. I bought 2 bottles of wine, some Havarti cheese, pita crackers and spinach dip. I also bought some inexpensive canvases should the wine spark my creativity.
Luckily it did!

I love the colors of this SUPER expensive Ikat print throw pillow. I thought it would be cool to replicate the colors onto a canvas. So I busted a sweet freestyle and went to town.
The inspiration: This $230 pillow

I apologize for the crappy cell phone quality of these photos. I am no Picasso, but I think the finished product looks pretty darn good!

8x10 canvas: $1.69
acrylic paint in various colors: already owned
paint brushes in various sizes: gifted

Total cost of this art project: $1.69

And here's a few shots from our snow day!
{Snow. Yipee!}

Snow Bunny

Well that title is definitely deceiving...

I live in South Carolina where it doesn't snow that often. The wind has to blow just right and if you do not stand in the right place for exactly 43 minutes, then everything is ruined and "No snow for you!". Whenever we have a mention that there's a slim chance of a possibility of snow, the whole state goes crazy! Everything shuts down. Schools are out and offices close early. The milk, bread and eggs shelves at the grocery store are wiped clean. Pure insanity I tell ya.
It was supposed to start snowing around 11am here. And I knew that the company I work for would be kind and let us off early today. So I figured I would dress how I was feeling about the impending snow:

Sassy.

Lace sleeve/back black top: $8
Gray Exhilaration skirt: $4.25
Black tights: $6
Earrings: $1
Boots: previously owned

Today's outfit total: $19.25

Ps. It is now 6:50pm and it has yet to start snowing here.

The Three Musketeers

Me and the BFF met up at Goodwill yesterday for a little shopping. She's quite the thrifty gal herself. She recently found a huge gorgeous, numbered art print for $25. I can't wait to see it displayed in her new home.
Here's a little bit of our adventure together.

 {The BFF digging through the art section.}

 {She picked up this great lighting fixture for $10 that she will transform with her magic.}

{Even though we loved this "Ms. Frizzle" inspired dress, it was too small so we passed on it.}

I did end up buying a few things for myself:
{Exhilaration skirt- $4.25}

{Exhilaration dress [the close-up is the true color]- $6.25}

{Jessica Simpson flats- $5.75}

Next, we rolled down to Big Lots where The Mister met us (The BFF + The Mister = lovebirds). Everything in the store was 20% off with their rewards card. We only bought a couple of small items but mostly just browsed around the store laughing and raising a ruckus.
 {We're the 3 best friends that anyone could have!}

{These cute, miniature pots and pans were only $1. Might be cute for decorating with?}

{Fun mugs.}

 {I really loved these light pink glasses. A set of six for $9. Also available in purple and blue.}

 {Pretty votives.}

 {Cute plastic outdoor lanterns for summertime.}

 {Knock-off Girl Scout cookies. They were only $1.40. I bought a box and they are legit! And I don't even feel bad about it. #SorryNotSorry}

Did you happen to go out thrifting this weekend? I would love to hear all about it! Comment below and let me know.

No Tea, No Shade

"Girl, no tea, no shade but you need some curtains!"  - me, every time I look at the windows in my house

I bought my house in November 2012 and have yet to buy curtains for my massive windows. Shameful, I know. Partly because the windows really are huge and I was intimidated. Mostly because curtains are expensive! I wanted something fun and playful but I've noticed that curtains are a lot like bras: the larger the size, the more expensive the price, the uglier the bra (or curtains).
{my living room currently}

I've seen tons of DIY curtains on Pinterest. But something you should know about The Foxy Thrifter: I. Cant. Sew. So obviously that eliminated most of the DIY tutorials. Well, enter my BFF. We met up at our local Goodwill to see what we could find. The first stop was the linens section where we she found this.
Being the thrifty and crafty lady she is, she hands it to me and says, "Curtains?" Well duh! Of course she would look at them and see curtains. I don't know if I told her this at the time but I saw these tablecloths at Goodwill almost a week prior to our outing and it never even crossed my mind before she suggested it.
There were 4 brand new tablecloths in the same pattern so I bought all of them since I was unsure how many panels I would actually need. Turns out I only needed two.
It would also turn out that the tablecloths were about 2 feet longer than I needed. And since I am no seamstress, I hemmed them the easiest and laziest way possible: with safety pins. I measured out the extra length (23 inches) and then pinned 3 safety pins on each side of the panels. Next I attached the curtain hanging clips and they were ready to go!
 {Jorge helping me with measurements while Foxy played with her toy.}

The tablecloth packaging came with these fabric bands to hold it together and make it look "fancy".

 I thought, "Hey! I can use this to tie back the curtains when needed!" So I did.

What it cost
Two tablecloths from Goodwill: $9.50
Curtain rod from Big Lots (20% off!): $8.80
Two 14-clip packs of curtain hanging clips from Big Lots (20% off!): $12.80
 Total = $31.10

Afternoon Delight

Do you ever have a day where you are feeling kind of blah? I know you do. Everyone does. Well today was that kind of day for me. So on my lunch break I decided to stop at Goodwill for a little retail therapy. My M.O. was to find some frames or framed art that I could use for a hallway makeover. And this is what happened.

On my way to the housewares section, I had to walk through the shoes. Ok, I didn't really have to walk through the shoes. I could have went straight down the middle of the store. Something you should know about The Foxy Thrifter is that I don't do anything on the straight and narrow.
But, I digress.

So these booties caught my eye.

Brand is Blowfish and the style is Vance. Original retail price: $89.00.

They are brand-spanking-new! Never worn. Completely clean and stain free. I am not a tall gal so I am usually wary of anything over a certain heel height. Plus, being a shawty, I try to stay away from anything too bulky south of my waistline. I tried these on to see how they fit (great!). To test out the feel of them (also great!), I wore them to the back of the store where I was intending on going to in the beginning: the housewares section.

Which is where I found this.

 I sat down on a couch to switch back into my boots from the booties, looked up and saw it directly in front of me. There was a lady standing beside it. So what did I do? I snatched it.* Luckily she didn't seem too upset by my sudden grabbing in her general area. I have been wanting a large frame or framed art for my Master Bathroom and I knew this was perfect.
I did a little research on the artist and it turns out she is local. Even better!

*Snatching things has apparently become my signature thrifting move.

What I paid
Shoes: $5.75
Framed art: $14.75

Ridin' Dirty

As many of you know, everything at Goodwill was 50% off today. So my Mom and I decided to get together and go out to a couple of our local stores.

The first stop was the one by my house. And let me just start by saying that I live within 1 mile of this location. And as you can imagine, this can be very dangerous... for my wallet. Just because I have a deep, undying love for thrift shopping doesn't mean that I need to go crazy and stop by a thrift shop everyday. And yes, everything is at a great discount, however I am no balller. But I digress.

So here we go.

The store was PACKED. We were lucky to find a buggy (that means shopping cart for you non-Southerners)! And it is a good thing we did because our first stop was to the linens section where I promptly snatched up 3 pillows and threw them into our buggy. There was no way I was going to miss out on these guys- they were $1 a pillow!

Next we headed towards the household area. And this is where we hit the JACKPOT! It seems that everything I could see was meant to come home with me. My eyes first landed on this brand new Nate Berkus lamp base and a random but nice shade that happened to be lying nearby.
The total came to $9.49 ($7.87 for the base and $1.62 for the shade).

Here are a few random photos from our excursion.
{ Mom checking out the baskets.}

{A buggy overload!}

{Taking a moment to rock out on the accordion.}

Ok, and now for the super duper steal of the day. Just a few days ago I found a great leather chair listed on Craigslist. The owner was asking $150 for it. There was no way that I would ever pay that much for a chair so I shed a little tear and went on about my day. Fast forward to this afternoon when this lovely gentleman came a calling. I mall-walked right on over to it and snatched the ticket off of it. (On a side note: Today I learned something new about myself. I am a snatcher.) I didn't even care that I had no idea how I was getting it home. I just knew he was coming home with ME!
{Isn't he handsome? *swoon*}
 Yeah he's a little beat up. But he's sooo mysterious. He has a history. He's a bad boy.
Plus it's nothing a little TLC and some leather cleaner/conditioner couldn't handle.

Remember how I mentioned that I live within a mile of my local Goodwill? And remember how I mentioned that it can be dangerous? Well today, it was a freaking blessing! Somehow we managed to cram this chair in the back of my hatchback car and away we went- open hatchback and all.
 {Me and mom ridin' dirty.}

Turns out that Jorge & Foxy Darling love the new chair. Not bad considering it was only $25.37!!!

Here are some of our other purchases from today:

 {My parents are big Corning Ware and Pyrex fans- this dish was $1.50}
 {Men's shirts were $2.12 each.}

 {I have some major upcycling plans for that wire basket!}

 {Hello new copper jello mold for 25¢ to add to the growing collection!}
{Jorge checking out this basket that will be used as a waste basket by my vanity.}
