Why Yes, We Are Models!

Happy President's Day! I spent my last federal holiday off until May (*tear*) at Goodwill... where else would I have spent it? Certainly not at work! I had plans to meet the BFF, Tiff, and our friend, Cole, for some retail therapy. And since Goodwill was having a 50% off store wide sale there really was no other place we needed to be.

Tiff arrived to the first location shortly before 9am and told me via text that there was already a line at the door. Being the good friend she is, she snapped this picture of the madness.

We ended up going to two locations and looked through just about every section in both stores. Enjoy these photos of some of the gems we discovered.

No Habla Ingles

I headed to Charlotte, NC this past weekend to spend some quality time with my friends, Jessica and Jess. No, that was not a typo. Yes, they are both have the same name. Jessica was in class all day on Saturday and Jess had to be at basketball practice so I did a little thrifting to kill some time until they were home.

First up was Value Village. I have never been to one but have always heard great things about them. There happened to be one near their house so I hit it up. This particular Value Village is in a predominantly Hispanic neighborhood. As I was standing outside taking the picture below, a soft-spoken older woman approaches me to ask for money. She immediately begins speaking in Spanish. I look at her and say, "No habla ingles." without even realizing what I was saying. Obviously she looked at me like I was a jerk and that was when I realized what I actually said. Oops!

 

I am happy to report that the rumors are true. V.V. is where it's at. The store was HUGE and very well organized- which was surprising since it was such a large location. Everything was individually priced. Much different than what I am used to with shopping at Goodwill where only a few things are individually priced. From what I could see on Saturday, V.V. also uses the 'color of the week' deal just like Goodwill.

What I bought from Value Village:

 {I was planning on painting the frame but I kind of like the way it looks as with the canvas.}

 

 

And for the Pièce(s) de résistance: Two leather jackets! The first photo is of the one I bought for myself. The second photo is one that was too perfect to pass up. It was not a good fit on me but this jacket deserved a new, loving home. I could not just put it back on the sales rack. It was BRAND NEW and in perfect condition! So I called up Jess and offered to get it for her if she were interested. And she was.

After I got over the shock of finding these two fantastic leather jackets, I met up with Jess and we headed to the Salvation Army. This particular location always catches my eye when I drive by it. The store has these big showroom style windows perfect for displaying their massive furniture collection (as seen below).

 

This is just a small section of the furniture. And I must say that I feel this thrift store had the best selection of furniture at insanely affordable prices. There was a red sectional in perfect condition for right under $400.  I was bummed that I was so far from home with no way of transporting it back to my house!

 

I did end up purchasing one thing... another copper jello mold!

So all in all I say it was a great weekend of thrifting. I enjoyed going to new stores and seeing the differences of what they sell compared to the stores in my area.

Ridin' Dirty

As many of you know, everything at Goodwill was 50% off today. So my Mom and I decided to get together and go out to a couple of our local stores.

 

The first stop was the one by my house. And let me just start by saying that I live within 1 mile of this location. And as you can imagine, this can be very dangerous... for my wallet. Just because I have a deep, undying love for thrift shopping doesn't mean that I need to go crazy and stop by a thrift shop everyday. And yes, everything is at a great discount, however I am no balller. But I digress.

 

So here we go.

 

The store was PACKED. We were lucky to find a buggy (that means shopping cart for you non-Southerners)! And it is a good thing we did because our first stop was to the linens section where I promptly snatched up 3 pillows and threw them into our buggy. There was no way I was going to miss out on these guys- they were $1 a pillow!

 

 

Next we headed towards the household area. And this is where we hit the JACKPOT! It seems that everything I could see was meant to come home with me. My eyes first landed on this brand new Nate Berkus lamp base and a random but nice shade that happened to be lying nearby.

The total came to $9.49 ($7.87 for the base and $1.62 for the shade).

Ok, and now for the super duper steal of the day. Just a few days ago I found a great leather chair listed on Craigslist. The owner was asking $150 for it. There was no way that I would ever pay that much for a chair so I shed a little tear and went on about my day. Fast forward to this afternoon when this lovely gentleman came a calling. I mall-walked right on over to it and snatched the ticket off of it. (On a side note: Today I learned something new about myself. I am a snatcher.) I didn't even care that I had no idea how I was getting it home. I just knew he was coming home with ME!

 Yeah he's a little beat up. But he's sooo mysterious. He has a history. He's a bad boy.

Plus it's nothing a little TLC and some leather cleaner/conditioner couldn't handle.

 

Remember how I mentioned that I live within a mile of my local Goodwill? And remember how I mentioned that it can be dangerous? Well today, it was a freaking blessing! Somehow we managed to cram this chair in the back of my hatchback car and away we went- open hatchback and all.

Turns out that Jorge & Foxy Darling love the new chair. Not bad considering it was only $25.37!!!
